Why We Need Small Farms Now More Than Ever
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the world’s systems and infrastructure seem shakier than ever before. With the war against Iran, global trade could be severely affected. This includes oil and food.
Alongside other issues like climate change, the war could disrupt supply chains and the accessibility of resources. This is why we need small farms more than ever. Small farms can supply our region’s needs for food.
California can feed itself if it reorganized the farming model. Instead of exporting our food, we should grow it for our 40 million people. There are lots of young people who want to farm in this state but the problem is lack of affordable land and lack of financial resources for starting up.
The governor needs to step it up and make small farms a real deal in California so we can feed our people. If we invest in a small farming system, then we can make ourselves resilient to the madness from Washington.
